Walk-in Advent calendar: A celebration of thoughts in the Perg home

The Heimathaus Stadtmuseum Perg is preparing for a special Advent season. From Friday, November 29, 2024, the doors to a walk-in Advent calendar will be opened, which will offer visitors new thoughts and impulses on each of the 24 days of Advent. This innovative exhibition invited visitors to celebrate the festive season in a personal and creative way. Opening times are Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. until January 5, 2025.

Last year the motto was “Come to the nativity scene,” and this year the museum is focusing on a new concept that is intended to enrich the Advent season. A special event will take place on December 18, 2024 at 6 p.m. when a festive Advent window will be added to the exhibition. In this way, the anticipation of Christmas in Perg is further encouraged.

Extended exhibitions and new initiatives

In addition to the Advent exhibition, the popular show “Hotzenplotz & Co – 35 Years of the Naarn Children’s Stage” will remain accessible on the upper floor of the museum until January 5, 2025. This exhibition attracts both children and adults, and the combination of culture and adventure is a real asset to the region.

The Heimathaus Stadtmuseum Perg has been awarded the Austrian museum quality seal since 2014 and recently received an extension of this quality seal until the end of 2029. This demonstrates the museum's commitment to providing high quality cultural programs. Chairman Franz Moser and deputy Franz Pfeiffer reported on the large number of activities at the general meeting on November 15, 2024.

A special Bruckner year took place in 2024, during which some fascinating events were organized. This included a special exhibition that ran from May to October with an original Bruckner letter and historical organ pipes. The local history and museum association also offered a Bruckner walk and an excursion to the Bruckner exhibition in the Austrian National Library. A reading with Alfred Zellinger, the so-called “Brucknerstraßler” from Perg, rounded off the program.

On October 4, 2024, a multifunctional exhibition and event room was inaugurated and presented to the public. The opening of the exhibition “Hotzenplotz & Co – 35 Years of Naarn Children’s Stage” took place here, which enables various cultural event formats. This new space is available not only for the presentation of exhibitions, but also for accompanying events by Perger clubs and institutions.

In another notable initiative, Rosina Pfeiffer presented a new permanent exhibition entitled “Faszination Perger Mühlsteine” as part of the general assembly, financed by Leader funds. This exhibition shows valuable elements from the history of millstone production in Perg, including guild loads, guild flags and guild books. Developments in the 20th century received particular attention, when the company Fries, Burgholzer & Co set up a workshop that produced huge grinding stones for the paper industry. The important invention of the high-quality plaster “PERGIT” is also presented, as well as the evolution towards the facade specialist Capatect in the 1990s.

The combination of historical elements and modern art makes the Heimathaus Stadtmuseum an important cultural location in Perg, which is an attraction for both locals and visitors from outside. The upcoming Advent events promise an enriching experience that will add a special touch to the region's cultural life.
