Wild accidents in darkness: How new measures increase traffic safety

In the Kirchdorf region, the number of game accidents is again accumulating, especially now that the days are getting shorter. Christian Schimanofsky, director of the Board of Trustees for Road Safety, points out that around 47 percent of game accidents with personal injury in the dark and ten percent at dusk. In these early evening hours, deer and rabbits are particularly affected. Franz Humpl, the district hunter, emphasizes the need for wild warning devices to avoid such accidents. For this purpose, new routes have been requested to be equipped with these devices.

In this context, the annual venison show in Kirchdorf took place in mid -October, in which the district hunters were able to gain an overview of the deer population. At this event, more than 2,100 roebucks were presented for evaluation. Humpl explains that this template is mandatory to ensure a healthy population. It is optimistic about the number of shootings this year and believes that they will exceed expectations. A negative aspect are the increased cases of the 'red stomach worm', which affects deer and chamois, but is harmless to humans.

A lot of interest in hunting training

Hunting is becoming increasingly popular, and more and more interested parties want to familiarize themselves with the processes in nature. This affects both women and men of all ages. Humpl emphasizes that the Schlierbach Agriculture School (LFS) has been the highest number of registrations for the first module since its existence. Against this background, one plans to intensify further training in the future. The offers should range from the construction of a high level to "creation courses" to expand the knowledge of the participants.

For everyone who wants to deal more intensively with the hunt, a new hunting course for young hunters is coming up from Tuesday, January 7th. This will take place in the "Wirt in Strienzing" inn in Wartberg and include both presence and online lessons. Interested parties can register with Helmut Sieböck on 0676/4441222 or by email H.Sieboeck@gmail.com. Registration with Stefan Waser (stefan.waser@gmx.at) is also possible to secure a place in this exciting course.

These developments are not only important for hunters, but also for safety in road traffic. The commitment to the safe coexistence of humans and animals is a central topic that actively pursues hunters by creating both prevention measures and training opportunities that promote understanding of nature and raise awareness of these important topics.
