Steinbach an der Steyr: A magical Advent full of traditions and enjoyment

The magic of Christmas has Steinbach an der Steyr firmly under control. From December 1st, the town will be transformed into an Advent calendar village, where one of the 24 Advent windows at the town fountain will be opened every evening at 5 p.m. This festive event is accompanied by a traditional ceremony and visitors are also warmly invited to take part. The festive program begins the day before, on November 30, 2024, with the consecration of the Advent wreath in the parish church, which takes place at 7 p.m. Before that, at 1 p.m., the nativity scene collection will also be opened, which is a real eye-catcher for young and old.

Ceremonial opening on Bratwürstl Sunday

The officially heralded Advent in Steinbach falls on “Bratwürstlsonntag” on December 1st. On this day, the Advent market will be open on the town square, in the community yard and in the parish center. Visitors can look forward to an atmospheric ambience as they stroll through the various stands. This year the markets will take place on the weekends of July 7th and 8th. and 14th/15th December, every Saturday from 1 p.m. and Sunday and public holidays from 10 a.m. Local specialties, artisanal products and festive concerts are offered. A particular highlight is the extensive “Pils Collection” with more than 600 nativity scenes from almost 100 countries, which shows magnificent depictions and special techniques.

Amidst all the festive rehearsals and offerings, you can also enjoy traditional food, such as Holzknechtknödel and punch, while the “Alpine Holzknecht Christmas” in front of the nativity scene invites you to sit back and relax. The Holzknechthütte and the Pilshalle also offer a variety of changing exhibitors who present both old and new crafts.

Various events in Advent

Also take a look at the other dates as part of the Steinbach Advent: Advent concerts in the parish church on December 1st, 8th, 14th, 15th and 22nd, each at 3 p.m. A special highlight will be Santa Claus' visit on Saturday, December 7th, at 4:30 p.m. A Perchtenlauf in the center is on the program on December 14th. There will also be a hunting day on December 15th starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by a mountain rescue day on December 22nd from 2 p.m. On this day, the Steyr Christ child is also expected at 5 p.m. The crowning conclusion of Advent is the Perchtenraun Night on January 5th, which is celebrated with a large fireworks display from 5 p.m.
