Kirchdorf presents supplementary budget: administration fights against chaos

The turbulent financial situation in the Kirchdorf community continues to be a topic of conversation among citizens. At a recent meeting of the local council, the supplementary budget for 2024 was presented, a measure that became necessary due to incorrect bookings and payments. Mayor Christoph Greißl from the Free Voters' Association (FWG) announced that the municipality is working intensively to control invoices and incoming payments in order to finally shed light on the darkness of the finances.

It turned out that the problems originated in 2023, when incorrectly recorded invoices complicated the situation. In order to deal with this chaotic situation, the community requested external support from the consulting firm hjs-consulting. This company was commissioned to prepare an emergency budget to ensure the administration's ability to act. Greißl explained that at that time they were forced to adopt the figures for 2022 and increase them by ten percent to compensate for inflation. “It was the only way to stay in the game,” he added.

Details of the supplementary budget

The new supplementary budget now provides for an administrative budget of around 3.9 million euros, while the asset budget is around 3.7 million euros. What is striking is the significant increase in the administrative community levy, which increases by around 220,000 euros, from around 321,000 euros to around 542,000 euros. In addition, 146,800 euros must be budgeted to compensate for the kindergarten's deficit.

The local council passed the supplementary budget with a majority of 7 to 3 votes. Some members of the panel expressed concern about the need for a supplementary budget, particularly since serious administrative errors were identified as the main cause. This also raises questions about who is responsible for the predicament.

Despite the critical voices, it remains essential for the community to restore financial order. With the supplementary budget, Kirchdorf not only wants to overcome the current challenges, but also develop a plan to avoid future misunderstandings and incorrect bookings. The community is therefore faced with the task of restoring trust and making the administration transparent.

The developments in Kirchdorf are exemplary of the challenges that many smaller communities face when it comes to managing their finances. The case is being followed closely and could serve as a basis for future reforms.
