Norway's ski jumpers in focus: Is there a risk of the season being canceled after a scandal?
Norway will continue to be represented in the World Cup despite the ongoing ski jumping manipulation scandal. After intensive discussions with the athletes, sports director Jan-Erik Aalbu decided to set up a team for the remaining competitions in Lahti and Planica. Initially, Aalbu considered not sending the team due to the suspensions of five athletes and three coaches by the FIS. “There is no doubt that they have been left wanting more,” explained Aalbu, who pointed to the positive experiences of a young team at international level after competing at the last ski flying weekend in Vikersund laola1.at reports.
However, the situation remains tense. In an interview with NRK, Aalbu did not even rule out a possible complete cancellation of the season for the Norwegian ski jumpers. “In any case, we have to consider what is best for the athletes,” said Aalbu. The two top jumpers Marius Lindvik and Johann André Forfang are temporarily suspended due to the scandal, which is causing considerable difficulties for the Norwegian team. Fredrik Villumstad, who is supposed to master the jump before the further competition, is looking forward to the challenges ahead, but the discussion about a voluntary withdrawal remains in the room, reports sport1.de.
