On January 6, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district, Lower Austria, in which two car drivers were killed. The accident happened when a 61-year-old driver crossed into oncoming traffic on the B 2 state road and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle driven by a 44-year-old. So far this year, Lower Austria has had the most people die in road traffic (13), which is a serious signal for road safety in the country.
