Mourning for young forestry workers: tragic accident in Neunkirchen

In the community of Oberhöflein, located in the Neunkirchen district, a tragic incident claimed the life of a young man. David R., a 21-year-old forestry worker, died after suffering serious injuries in a forestry accident. The news of his death caused great consternation not only in his family, but also in the local football club, WSV Oed/Waldegg.

The accident occurred on November 11th when David R. was busy cutting work in the forest. According to reports, he was hit in the back by a falling beech tree whose trunk was 40 cm in diameter. Since he couldn't be reached until midday and relatives were worried, a search was carried out for him. Tragically, he was found seriously injured under the fallen tree. The volunteer fire department provided first aid and, together with an emergency doctor, took him to the Wiener Neustadt University Hospital, where he died a few days later.

Increased number of accidents in the forest

The KFV analysis indicates that the age group of those affected varies between 18 and 82 years. Interestingly, a significant proportion of victims are over 60 years old, indicating the often underestimated physical strain at this age. Despite their experience, older people tend to downplay the risks and challenges of forest work. The KFV has therefore emphasized the need to better inform private forest owners in particular about safety precautions and potential dangers.
