Semmering in a new shine: Historical buildings awaken to new life!
Semmering, Österreich - On December 9, 2024, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner invited to an important network meeting in Villa Schönthaler am Semmering. At this event, the “Building Culture at Semmering” project was presented, which aims to renovate venerable buildings in the region by 2030 and get Semmering from its “Sleeping Beauty sleep”. Mikl-Leitner emphasized the need for a common commitment from investors and the local population to preserve and revitalize the historical value and architecture of the region. "We have to transfer from the horror to the golden time," said the governor, who also pointed out the importance of craft in this process. This project is supported by various organizations that are committed to the preservation of traditional craft techniques, such as the ARGE building, which represents over 100,000 employees. The initiative includes more than 80 detailed projects that are in the planning and rely on a positive development of the region, reported OTS
Another important project to revive the Semmering was presented in the book presentation "Stem guests: Jews and Jews am Semmering" in the Vienna Palais Lower Austria. In a moving framework, Mikl-Leitner explained that the book is the beginning of a long journey to explore the past of the semmering and to keep it alive. Danielle Spera, the editor, illuminates Jewish life in this important place and underlines its historical importance. Mikl-Leitner decided to promote the culture of memory in order to learn from history, especially with regard to the dark chapters of National Socialism. Further initiatives are also presented, such as the revitalization of former synagogues and memorials in order to honor the cultural diversity and importance of the Jewish heritage in Lower Austria, such as noe.gv.at in detail.
