The Weltladen Neunkirchen has reopened after several months and is now located on Kölner Straße in the former elementary school. Volunteers sell fair products and are happy about the large number of visitors.
Weltladen Neunkirchen: Finally back and better than ever!
Neunkirchen.After a long period of uncertainty, the world shop in Neunkirchen has finally moved to its new premises on Kölner Straße! For 100 days, the dedicated team around Monika Vedder-Reiffenrath has been selling their popular fair trade products again - from delicious chocolate to aromatic coffee and fresh bananas. The excitement is palpable: “We were worried that customers would forget us,” admits Vedder-Reiffenrath. But the opposite is the case! The store is booming!
The past few months have been a challenge because the volunteers had to give up their old place on Bahnhofstrasse between March and July 2024 because the landlord was vacating himself. The search for new premises was like a race against time. “The first half of the year was depressing for us,” says Dorothee Schumann, chairwoman of the Weltladen. But she never gave up and her patience paid off. The new shop in the annex of the former primary school quickly filled up with goods - now the sales area is a real eye-catcher!
Demand is increasing again!
The secret of success? A mix of walk-in customers and loyal regular customers! “There’s a lot more going on here,” notes Schumann enthusiastically. The redesign has brought a breath of fresh air into the store. In addition, the farmers' and organic market in September ensured additional influx. “We have customers who consciously buy fair trade products as well as those who are looking for beautiful gifts,” explains Vedder-Reiffenrath. The first few weeks at the new location also exceeded the sales figures in the old store.
Sure, everything could be better, because the rental agreement is only valid for one year. However, hopes for a permanent solution are still in the air. “We are not naïve, we are now planning step by step and year by year,” concluded Schumann thoughtfully. But for now: The World Shop is back – and stronger than ever!
