Zellerndorfer reports: Night of ATM sprinkling and escape

October 2 was a shocking day for the residents in Zellerndorf. Raphael Hofstätter, who lives above the train station, experienced the dramatic events of an ATM explosion up close. At 3 a.m. he woke his wife to take a break of smoke together. After this short excursion back into the bedroom, he noticed a bright flash of light and then heard a loud bang that was reminiscent of a thunder. "It was like the world was standing for a moment," he describes the situation.

through the window he was able to observe how a suspicious person ran out of the building with a bag and entered a black combination that was driven by another person. Unfortunately, Hofstätter was not possible to recognize the license plate of the car. A short time later the police arrived at the scene and started with the investigation.

evacuation and thrill

The police also asked Hofstätter to temporarily leave his apartment because the building had to be evacuated. Therefore, he temporarily moved to his wife's apartment, who also lives in Zellerndorf. "I could have come back the next day, but the feeling of going back into the apartment after such an incident is simply not there," he explains and thinks about changing his life in Zellerndorf.

The psychological effects of such incidents should not be underestimated. "After a shock of this kind, you think about your home and wonder if you are really safe everywhere. The decision not to want to live in Zellerndorf has fallen for me," says Hofstätter.

The ATM sprinkling has shaken the community. Many residents are concerned about the security and the common incidents in the region. It remains to be seen whether this type of crime will increase in the future. The police have started the investigation and are looking for the fleeting ones who are responsible for this incident. More information about the course is still sparse at the moment. Hofstätter hopes that the perpetrators will be caught quickly and that the residents can soon live in peace again.

The situation illustrates the concerns of many people about the security in their own living environment. "I don't feel as comfortable here as I would like it to be," concludes Hofstätter and gives an insight into the thoughts that plague him in the night after the explosion. The incidents in Zellerndorf are a recurring topic that remains in the conversations of people, which raises the question of security in their own community.
