On July 8, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred in the Spittal/Drau district, in which a car came off the road and plunged into the Kremsbach around 50 meters over steep terrain. The accident happened at 5:50 p.m. on the L19 when the 49-year-old driver from the Zwettl district lost control of his vehicle in a sharp left curve for unknown reasons. The car landed badly damaged on the passenger side in the stream bed, the two occupants suffered fatal injuries. Tragically, the co-driver is a 75-year-old woman from the Gmünd district. In the course of the accident, a large contingent of rescue and emergency services was mobilized.
