Bomb threats paralyze train stations: Investigations in several cities are running

In the past few days, the train stations in Graz, Linz, Salzburg, St. Pölten and Klagenfurt have experienced unforeseen closures due to bomb threats. The police are investigating and has reason to assume that a uniform author is behind these threats. The incidents have led to an increased safety contingent in the affected regions.

On Monday evening, both the Graz main station and the Ostbahnhof had to be evacuated due to an email threat. After a comprehensive search of both buildings, it turned out that there were no threatening objects, which could quickly resume train traffic. The Linz main station was also affected on Tuesday when it had to be cleared due to a similar threat, but the company could be restored after two hours.

central investigation

The state offices for state protection and exemplary fighting (LSE) in cooperation with the Directorate State Security and Intelligence Service (DSN) are responsible for the investigation. These coordinated efforts focus on possible criminal consequences, since, according to the agency spokesman Johann Baumschlager, it is by no means a matter of cavaliers. In view of the severity of the threats, the authors threaten up to several years in prison.

Only recently there was a bomb threat against Vienna Airport in Schwechat on Wednesday, which was, however, was transmitted as "very vague" and with little information. According to the police, there was no acute danger, and a direct connection to the station threats was very unlikely.

The incidents at the train stations were all transmitted by email. In Salzburg, the threat reached the police shortly before 4:00 p.m., which led to an immediate complete lock. After a two and a half hour review, the all -clear could also be given here, and train traffic was restored as soon as possible. The same thing happened to the Klagenfurt Central Station, which was temporarily closed on Wednesday evening after receiving an email threat. Around 50 people from the security area also had to be evacuated in St. Pölten.

The police warn of the serious consequences of such threats. Those responsible have to expect charges for dangerous threats or land compulsion, which can result in considerable punishments. In the coming days, the investigation will continue to hold the author into account.
