Leobersdorf shines: new photovoltaic carport for 30 cars opened!
An innovative step towards sustainable mobility has been taken in Leobersdorf in the Baden district: the photovoltaic carport in the elementary school parking lot was successfully completed. The construction work, which began in October with the foundation and wooden structure, was completed in November with the installation of the roof covering and PV modules. With a total area of 463 m², the carport offers space for 30 vehicles and generates around 110,000 kilowatt hours of environmentally friendly electricity annually meinkreis.at reported.
Funding for photovoltaic roofing
Lower Austria is relying on the energy transition and will also be promoting paved parking spaces for the installation of photovoltaic systems from September 1, 2023. This measure is intended to promote the use of solar energy on sealed surfaces while increasing comfort for drivers by providing protection from the elements. Covering parking spaces offers several advantages: additional environmentally friendly electricity and pleasant use of the parking spaces. The state is funding the installation of PV parking lot roofs in 2023 and 2024 with a total of 8 million euros, with various public institutions, companies and associations able to apply for funding, such as noe.gv.at highlights.
These measures underline the country's ambitious climate and energy roadmap, which aims to further expand the production of renewable electricity. The funding is awarded through a jury process and extensive costs for the construction of the systems are covered in order to reduce the additional environmentally relevant costs. This initiative shows that regional structures are moving towards the switch to sustainable energy while at the same time integrating modern amenities into everyday life.
