Kiel electronics expert saves Vendée Globe skipper in the storm!

In the race for the Vendée Globe, an unexpected incident causes excitement: skipper Sébastien Simon, sailing for Groupe Dubreuil, struggles with a failure of his autopilot in the Southern Ocean while a violent storm is approaching. At 4 a.m. the phone rings for Andreas Baden, an electronics specialist from Kiel and part of the technology team. Simon urgently needs support to diagnose the problem and repair the system while positioned in the difficult competition situation. Baden and Simon coordinate the remote repair over several days until the system is stable again and Simon can maintain his top position KN Online reported.

When the first skippers reached the longitude line of the Cape of Good Hope on November 29th, the leading four, including Simon, were in a thrilling race for the top spot. Simon recently achieved a stunning performance to set a 24-hour record covering 615.33 nautical miles, but the competition remains fierce. Loud Yacht.de Leader Charlie Dalin is in outstanding form, while Boris Herrmann, currently in eleventh place, is also on the hunt for the top and is on his way to latitude 35 south.

Andreas Baden's ambitions

Andreas Baden, who has joined this exciting adventure since the summer, has already gained experience in numerous offshore races. With the aim of competing in the Vendée Globe 2028 himself, he is combining his technical expertise with sailing skills. "I know every corner of the boat. That gives me a lot of experience for my further development," explains Baden, who shares his progress on social media. His journey to take part in the Vendée Globe shows how technical ability and sailing talent must go hand in hand, especially in the demanding Imoca class.

The racers face huge challenges, including technical problems and the unpredictability of the oceans. The prominent question in the round remains who will make the best strategic decisions and successfully overcome the challenges on the water, both from a technical and physical perspective. The race promises to remain exciting as the leaders stay on course and prepare for the situations ahead.
