Deadly major fire in Amstetten: fire brigade in action

On Wednesday afternoon, a devastating fire broke out in an inn in Hofstett-Emerbuch, a district of Amstetten. The fire brigade received the emergency call around 4:45 p.m. and immediately moved in with numerous emergency services. Thanks to the immediate vicinity of the fire brigade to the site, it could be reacted quickly. When the emergency services arrived, it burned especially on the first floor of the larger building complex.

In the affected building, the Löwen inn is located as well as living rooms and agricultural buildings. During the use, several animals, including goats and horses, could be saved unharmed. Tragically, a dead person was found in the immediate extinguishing work.

over 100 firefighters in action

In the first hour, 75 firefighters from Amstetten and surrounding communities were deployed. In the course of the extinguishing work, the number of emergency services increased to over 100, supported by emergency services and the technical relief organization (THW), which was also on site. The THW brought additional equipment to cope with the location, including an excavator to open the damaged roof structure.

The fire brigade used two turntable ladders and several hose lines. However, a planned internal attack had to be canceled because the firefighters noticed acute risk of collapse. Shortly afterwards there was a so-called flash-over, in which hot smoke inflamed and thick black smoke clouds from the roof structure under oxygen supply. By fitting windows with bricks, deleting from the outside was made possible.

tireless use and helpfulness

The fire brigade worked with a drone relay to observe the course of the fire from above and thus act more efficiently. Thermal imaging cameras were also used to identify embers. Unfortunately, two firefighters breathed poisonous smoke during the extinguishing work and had to be taken to a hospital for treatment. Expiration fitters ensured the safety of the emergency services who interrupted the power supply to the inn.

The residents showed great sympathy. Many neighbors provided drinks, opened their doors for the firefighters and ensured that they had access to toilets. A resident participated with the donation of four party types.

In addition, the adjacent building had to be evacuated - a total of eight residents were surprised and quickly needed new accommodation. Amstettens Mayor Johannes Raab was on site to provide support. Those affected were temporarily accommodated in a hotel, while several emergency pastors tried to help the evacuated in this difficult location.

The investigation into the cause of the fire was initiated by the police headquarters Ulm's criminal service during the extinguishing work. Details on the damage caused by property are not yet known, but the situation remains tense. For additional information, readers can be found on the article www.augsburger-allgemeine.de access.
