New National Council begins 28th legislative period with the largest FPÖ faction
The National Council initiated the 28th legislative period with the commissioning of the MPs. A total of 73 new MPs take up their work in parliament. With 57 mandatar: now, the FPÖ is the largest faction. The ÖVP has 51 MPs, followed by the SPÖ with 41. The Neos now have 18 MPs and the Greens only 16.
The proportion of women in the National Council has dropped compared to the previous period. Instead of 39.34 %, only 36.07 % of MPs are now. There are a total of 66 female MPs. The youngest mandatar is Sebastian Schwaighofer from the FPÖ, while the oldest MP is Elisabeth Scheucher-Pichler from the ÖVP at the age of 70.
There are also changes in the seating arrangement. The FPÖ changes places with the ÖVP, so that the FPÖ is now sitting on the far right and the ÖVP on the far left. The SPÖ is located to the left of the FPÖ, followed by the Greens and the Neos.
