Marterbauer shines: Finance Minister with the greatest trust in the government!
Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer from the SPÖ has achieved the highest trust among government members in the latest version of the APA/OGM confidence index. With a trust balance of plus four, he is behind Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, who reaches the highest value in total with +19, but has lost five points since the last survey. Third National Council President Doris Bures follows closely behind with a balance of +18. These results were published on September 5, 2025 and are based on surveys that were carried out under 1,062 Austrians at the end of August and early September. The confidence balance results from an evaluation of the positive and negative trust statements and should be considered with a fluctuation width of three percentage points.
The survey shows that the SPÖ generates good values as a whole, even if there were slight losses compared to the April survey. Vice -Chancellor and Party leader Andreas Babler, on the other hand, recorded a decline and is now only one point above the new Greens federal spokeswoman Leonore Gewessler with a confidence balance of minus 23. Other government members such as National Council President Walter Rosenkranz (FPÖ) and ÖVP club chairman August Wöginger have to accept losses, with balance values of -27 or -31.
Loss of trust and profits
In the current survey, Herbert Kickl, the head of the FPÖ, is the bottom with a balance of minus 38. However, he has had the greatest increase in trust since April, with plus five points. On the other hand, Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) experienced a decline of three points with a balance of zero and is three points below April 2025. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner and Minister of Defense Klaudia Tanner also gained three points, while Integration Minister Claudia Plakolm won four points.
The Neos experienced a collective crash. The party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger has lost ten points to minus six. Minister of Education Christoph Return has even lost eleven points and is now in minus three, while Minister of Economics Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (ÖVP) has also dropped to minus seven. State Secretary Josef Schellhorn learned the most dramatic decline from plus five to minus 20. This is interpreted as a "amateurous stumbling" through a larger service car.
Comments on the situation
OGM boss Wolfgang Bachmayer commented on Herbert Kickl's increase in trust, who may have been favored by a media restraint. The results of the survey throw a light on the political mood in Austria and show how confidence in the various government members has developed. While the overall SPÖ cuts off well, the losses at the NEOS and other parties raise questions about the future political orientation and the trust of the voters.
The current situation illustrates the importance of the trust of citizens in politics, especially in real times in which political decisions can have far -reaching consequences.
