Klagenfurt in snowboard fever: Gasser and Svancer fight for victory!
Austria's snowboard and freeski elite is ready for the exciting World Cup in the Wörthersee Stadium Klagenfurter Stadium, which takes place from 2nd to January 4, 2025. On this impressive 15 meter high Big Air system, the domestic athletes, including the double Olympic champion Anna Gasser and the Freeskier Matej Svancer, hope for shiny performances. Gasser is excited and recognizes the special meaning of the event for her as a Carinthian: "I am a little more nervous than usual," she confessed. The qualification for Gasser and her teammates Kristina Holzfeind and Hanna Karrer will take place on Friday, while the male snowboarders such as Clemens Millauer and Eric Dovjak will start on Sunday morning. Gasser was enthusiastic about the new facility: "Everything looks extremely cool."
Matej Svancer conquers the top
Matej Svancer, the 17-year-old newcomer, recently lit up at the Big Air World Cup in Chur, where he took first place with a perfect score of 99.00 points. With a solid first round of 93.50 points, he quickly took the lead, while many of his competitors plunged. Svancer, who triumphed at the Youth Winter Olympic Games, crowned his performance with a sensational second run and exceeded the competition, including the Canadian Teal Harle and Norwegian Birk Ruud. These successes are now making him one of the most hopeful athletes in the upcoming Klagenfurt Showdown, where he will compete on a similarly demanding facility that meets his driving style.
The competitions in the Klagenfurt stadium promise tension and top performance, since the athletes have to deal with similar conditions as in Chur. "Driving a World Cup in a stadium is a brilliant idea," says Svancer. The expectations of the Austrian athletes are high, and the fans can look forward to an exciting weekend, which will be transferred live to ORF 1, such as laola1.at reported. Gasser had previously become third in Beijing in December and now wants to confirm their shape. The entire scene looks forward to this event, which could continue to inspire winter sports in Austria, as well as Eurosport.com emphasized.
