Inclusion and significance for the cathedral chapter

bishopMarketzDean Geistl also has it. AdviceJoseph Thamby Mula, who works as a pastor in Pörtschach am Wörthersee, was appointed the new honorary canon. The cathedral chapter now includes a total of three honorary canons. The role of honorary members is of great importance as they not only support the mission of the diocese but also strengthen the tradition of the chapter.

The Gurk Cathedral Chapter is considered the second oldest in Austria, after the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter. Its founding dates back to the early 12th century, and the institution has changed greatly since then. Originally the focus was on pastoral care for the communities in the Gurktal, but today the management of the diocese and administration has increasingly moved to the fore.

The insignia presented during the ceremony include the purple mozzetta (a cape), the purple biretta (a headgear), the chapter cross with chain and the ring for the new canons. The canon of honor receives a red mozzetta and appropriate insignia.

Current members of the Gurk Cathedral Chapter

The current members of the Gurk Cathedral Chapter are made up of the new canons and the existing cathedral chapters. This committee is headed by Cathedral Provost Msgr. Dr.Engelbert Guggenbergerdirected, who also acts as spokesman. Other members include the cathedral dean, dean cathedral priest Dr.Peter Allmaierand Ordinary Chancellor Official Msgr. Dr.Jacob Ibounig.

The appointment of Krištof and Buzingo enriches the diversity and expertise within the chapter. Krištof has held many important positions in the diocese in his career to date, including dean of the Ferlach/Borovlje deanery and pastor in several parishes. Dr. Sylvère Buzingo, who comes from Burundi, brings international experience and intercultural perspectives to his new role.

The integration of these newly built members is a significant step for the Gurk Cathedral Chapter, which bears not only spiritual but also administrative responsibility. The new canons will continue to contribute to the development and maintenance of the diocesan structures and their values.
