Successful search: 79-year-old found after night hunt in Velden
There was a dramatic incident in Velden am Wörthersee on Tuesday, October 22nd, when a 79-year-old woman disappeared from a nursing home. From late afternoon, sirens wailed in the region while numerous emergency services were mobilized to find the missing person. The search was intensified with the support of a police helicopter and the rescue dog team of the Samaritan Association of Carinthia.
The full extent of the situation became clear in the early evening hours. “Thanks to the excellent search carried out by the Mantrail group under the leadership of Alexandra Grunow, which lasted for hours until 4 a.m., the search area was narrowed down quite precisely,” explained Franz Blatnik from the rescue dog team on Facebook. This ultimately led to the woman being discovered by a group from the Velden am Wörthersee and Lind ob Velden volunteer fire departments.
Effective cooperation between emergency services
The extensive search operation mobilized not only the fire department, but also police patrols from Velden and the Villach Land district. The Flir police helicopter and nine dog handlers with five personal detection dogs and four sniffing dogs from the Samaritan Association of Carinthia's rescue dog team were on duty. This collaboration was crucial to the success of the rescue operation and ensured that the missing person could receive medical care quickly after she was found.
After she was rescued, the woman was flown to the hospital in Villach by the RK I emergency medical team. Her condition was described as stable. The intensive search and subsequent measures are an impressive example of the technical and human coordination of emergency operations in the region, which also received recognition on social media.
The rescue dog team and the volunteer fire department have often shown in such operations in the past how indispensable their cooperation is. This event reminds us of the importance of the rapid response of rescue workers and their commitment in critical situations. More details about this case can be found in a report www.5min.at to read.
