Halterner delegation celebrates partnership on St. Veiter Wiesenmarkt

In the city of Haltern am See, an exciting exchange with the Austrian twin town of St. Veit was recently held. The occasion was the meadow market, an impressive folk festival, which was now celebrated for the 661st time. From September 27th to September 30th, a ten -member delegation made its way to Carinthia to experience this cultural event.

The invitation came from Martin Kulmer, the mayor of St. Veit. On the occasion of the parade to open the meadow market, guests from Haltern took part, in which more than 60 groups ceremoniously presented the cultural heritage of Carinthia. "The participation of our partner city shows how lively our partnership is. That is lived connection," said Kulmer during the celebrations. Andreas Stegemann, the mayor of Haltern, expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality and the valuable insights that the delegation received.

tour and experiences

Not only the meadow market was on the program. The Haltern delegation also had the opportunity to visit the exhibition "800 Years of St. Veit an der Glan" in the town hall. This informative show illuminates the origins of St. Veit as a city center in the historical Duchy of Carinthia. A special focus was on the important role of the railway in city history, which was particularly interested in the guests. The most impressive attraction was the world's unique driving simulator of a railcar, which many tried with enthusiasm.

After a corona -related break, the city partnership between Haltern am See and St. Veit has again gained dynamics. In 2022, both cities celebrated the 50th anniversary of their partnership with a large rifle parade in St. Veit. This was followed by the return visit at the shooting festival in Haltern in 2023. It is clear that both sides will continue to deepen the exchange and the partnership in the future. The initiatives and visits to both cities help to ensure that the historical connection remains alive.
