A blessing in disguise: car accident in Spittal ends lightly
There was a traffic accident in Spittal that night, which fortunately only resulted in minor injuries. A 21-year-old man lost control of his vehicle and first hit a fire hydrant before crashing into a concrete wall. A 17-year-old friend who was also slightly injured was in the car with him. Despite the dramatic situation, both occupants were lucky as they escaped with minimal injuries.
The cause of the accident was quickly determined: An examination revealed that the driver was unfit to drive due to drug use and fatigue. Emergency services found various drugs in the car, including cannabis, as well as a water pipe and a grinder. The 21-year-old's driver's license was confiscated on site and further investigations into the substances seized are underway.
Damage and emergency services
The incident caused significant damage to the vehicle and the hydrant system. To secure the scene of the accident, the Spittal/Drau volunteer fire department was on site with 12 emergency services. These measures were taken quickly to eliminate any possible danger to other road users.
The incident raises questions not only about road safety, but also about responsibility on the road, particularly in relation to drug use. Future measures may be necessary to prevent similar events and increase local safety. For more information on this topic, see the report at www.klick-kaernten.at.
