Drama on the mountain: rescue of an elderly couple in the snow
An elderly couple from Vienna got into mountain distress in the Upper Drautal and had to be rescued by mountain rescue. Because of the snow, the couple panicked and asked for help. The snow depth on site was around 30 centimeters, but wind transport made the situation more difficult. Despite the snow, the two were physically fine and were able to stay safe thanks to a telephone connection.
The rescue was finally carried out by helicopter as no flight was possible on Saturday due to bad weather. On Sunday, the Libelle police helicopter flew the mountain rescuers to the couple, who were first rescued and then their car was brought into the valley. The couple, both 70 years old and owners of a hut, were saved unharmed thanks to the efforts of the mountain rescue team.
The rescue operation in the Upper Drautal shows the importance and efficiency of mountain rescue in emergencies in the mountains. Thanks to their quick and professional intervention, the two people were safely rescued.
