Alcohol vending machines: Unfair competition is stopped
The sale of alcohol via vending machines is causing debate in Carinthia. The Carinthian Chamber of Commerce has decided that the machines that sell canned beer and wine should be switched off. Nikolaus Gstättner, head of the trade division of the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce, described this as “unfair competition” and an “absolute no-go”.
The vending machines, which sell alcoholic drinks without any controls, have raised concerns about child protection and fair competition. By switching off the machines, these aspects should be better regulated.
The decision to shut down the machines was seen by the Carinthia Chamber of Commerce as a necessary step to control the sale of alcohol and minimize potential risks.
This measure aims to promote a responsible alcohol culture and ensure that the sale of alcoholic beverages complies with legal requirements.
