Herbert Kickl and Alice Weidel: A dangerous pact in Vienna!
Wien, Österreich - On May 2, 2025, the FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl received AfD boss Alice Weidel in Vienna. This meeting takes place against the background that the AfD was classified by the German Constitutional Protection as secure right -wing extremist. This has triggered a wave of the reactions because the party leadership of the AfD plans to proceed legally against this classification. Kickl himself criticized the "system" and urged a possible reduction in democracy in Germany.
The decision of the Protection of the Constitution to classify the AfD as a right-wing extremist was described by the AfD leadership as a "severe blow against German democracy". Above all, the AfD party attendant Stephan Brandner made it clear that he considers the decision to be politically motivated. The political arena shows a clear divergence: While Chancellor Olaf Scholz warns of a quick decision on a possible AfD ban, he also emphasizes the need for an intensive observation of the party by the protection of the constitution.
right -wing extremism in Germany
The right -wing extremist scene in Germany is currently experiencing a worrying increase. According to a current analysis of the protection of the constitution, the personal potential of violent right -wing extremists is around 14,500 people, which is an increase compared to previous years. In 2023, a total potential of 40,600 right -wing extremist persons was found, which means an increase of 1,800 people compared to 2022 (38,800 people).
The increase in right -wing extremist crimes is alarming: in 2023 a total of 25,660 offenses were registered, which represents an increase of 22.4 % compared to 2022. The number of violent attacks that has reached 1,148, which corresponds to an increase of 13.0 % compared to the previous year, is particularly worrying. Among these acts of violence, 933 xenophobic actions were recorded, which corresponds to an increase of 17.2 %.
right -wing extremist mobilization
In this context, right -wing extremist music events and demonstrations also become more important. In 2023, the number of right -wing extremist demonstrations with 367 meetings became almost doubled compared to 2022, where there were only 145 demonstrations. These events play an important role in identity foundation and the spread of right -wing extremist views.
In view of this growing threat from right -wing extremism, German politics is faced with challenges. While the AfD is increasingly on the defensive in political discourse, the question of how effectively prevention and intervention measures can be implemented against this trend remains. The coming months will play a crucial role in the assessment of political and social stability, especially with regard to the continuing surveillance by the protection of the constitution and the political reactions to right -wing extremists.Details | |
