Marriage rhythm: Johann Strauss meets Camo & Krooked at the Donauinselfest!

The anticipation is great, because on June 20th an extraordinary fusion of two worlds will be presented at the Vienna Reaktor: the DJ icons Camo & Krooked will merge with the timeless melodies of Johann Strauss. “This brings a lot of unrest into our workflow and is a big challenge,” said Camo during a presentation of the project. Despite the different musical genres - Strauss in major and the drum & bass masters in minor - there is, according to Christian Kolonovits, a common basis: "It is and remains dance music on both sides," as in the report by Small newspaper is highlighted.

A homage to the anniversary

However, Camo & Krooked's connection to Strauss is more than just an artistic experiment. It shows the need to reach new target groups for the composer's music. The director of the Strauss Festival, Susanne Schicker, emphasized that Strauss would probably have played at the Donauinselfest if it had already been established during his lifetime. In addition, as part of the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss (son), there will be several concerts in which the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra will play the composer's favorite works under the direction of the renowned conductor Johannes Wildner. This anniversary celebration will be divided into three events and will feature up to 43 works by Strauss, such as Elbphilharmonie reported.

The combination of classical music and modern beats could represent an interesting development for the Viennese music scene, with the extended version of the project, taking place at the Konzerthaus on September 18th and 19th, offering additional space for this unique musical symbiosis.
