Global obesity: Austria is facing an obesity catastrophe!

Global obesity is reaching alarming proportions! According to a recent study published in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet, it is predicted that around 60% of adults will be overweight or obese by 2050. These worrying figures come from a comprehensive analysis of 204 countries and regions and paint a worrying picture of an increasingly fat world population. The study's lead author, Emmanuela Gakidou of the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, called this development "a tragic and monumental societal failure" and calls for urgent policy reforms and preventive measures.

Countries in the Pacific, South America and the Middle East are particularly affected. In the Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Syria in particular, a shocking 94% of people over 25 are expected to be overweight or obese by 2050. In Austria it is predicted that in 25 years around 57.8% of the population will be overweight, documenting a steady increase since the 1990s. But an increase in obesity rates is also expected in other countries such as Chile, Australia, Greece, as well as the USA and New Zealand Wikipedia reports.
