Geisel urges for help: I will die without medicine!
On October 7, 2023, Rom Braslavski was kidnapped by Hamas during the Nova Nova music festival. He worked there as a guard and has since been in the control of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group. The family, who recently released another shocking video of him, reported on the dramatic circumstances of his captivity. In this, Braslavski says that he “suffers under extreme conditions: there is nothing to eat, there is nothing to drink, I am sick half the time,” according to Krone reporting.
The family decided to release the video to raise awareness of their loved one's desperate situation. Braslavski warns that he is at serious risk without medical help: “I could die if I get sick.” What is noticeable is that his face is not pixelated in the new recording, unlike previous videos. However, it remains unclear under what conditions the video was recorded. In addition to Braslavski, 24 other hostages and 35 bodies are still being held in the Gaza Strip.
Ceasefire and its consequences
Since mid-March 2025, the Israeli armed forces have resumed their attacks on the Gaza Strip after a ceasefire of around two months ended. This escalation follows ongoing fighting and Hamas's refusal to release the hostages. According to reports, the offensive is having a serious impact on the civilian population, who are suffering from extreme poverty and hunger. Around two million people in the Gaza Strip lack adequate access to food and medicine, and over 10,000 people have already been killed, as Amnesty International notes.
The humanitarian situation has deteriorated dramatically since the attacks began in October 2023. Some of the civilian population have not eaten bread for weeks. Given the limited distribution of aid supplies in the Gaza Strip, the northern areas are particularly suffering, where large hospitals are no longer functioning. Amnesty International is calling for an end to the siege and an immediate ceasefire to relieve the enormous suffering of the people.
Hostage families under pressure
Family members of hostages like Braslavski accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of endangering the lives of their relatives through military operations. The families' urgent appeals to regain the freedom of their loved ones are combined with their horror at the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the region.
