Woman at the head of the central bank: a sign of change in Syria!

In Syria, the Islamist coalition Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is making headlines: after a successful offensive that led to the recapture of Aleppo, the group is becoming increasingly stronger. HTS, originally known as the Al-Nusra Front, has changed significantly over the course of the civil war. The move to distance itself from al-Qaeda and focus on the local needs of Syrians is reflected in its growing popularity and military strength, such as Asia Times reports.

To consolidate the power structure of the new interim government led by HTS, the appointment of Maysaa Sabrine as managing director of the central bank has made waves. This appointment is another sign that women may take a more active role in Syria's political scene in the future. Sabrine, who was previously deputy director, is the second woman to hold a key position after Aisha al-Dibas was named head of the women's affairs office, reports Krone.at.

Strategic realignment and reorganization

HTS is currently not only fighting against the Assad government, but has also promoted several foreign jihadists to leading positions. According to reports, 49 former fighters have been appointed generals, including at least six foreign militants. This strategy could be part of a larger plan to consolidate international and military support while the Assad government is under pressure. Through better military organization and local support measures, HTS could establish itself as a dominant force in the region and could prove to be an important player in the chaotic environment of the Syrian Civil War.
