Fire brigade youth enthusiastic: 7,000 participants at the state meeting in Sigmundsherberg!
Sigmundsherberg, Österreich - On July 4, 2025, the 51st state meeting of the Lower Austrian fire brigade youth was opened in Sigmundsherberg. The event is a central event that draws numerous young fire brigade members into the region every year. Around 7,000 young people and their supervisors took part this year, although the event took place on a smaller extent due to the weather. The governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner was enthusiastic about the commitment of the fire brigade youth and emphasized the importance of role models in the fire brigade.
The state fire brigade commander Dietmar Fahrafellner reported a total of 6,839 participants, which represents an increase of 174 compared to the previous year. Mayor Franz Göd thanked the deployment of around 150 to 200 volunteers, of whom around 50 percent are not active with the fire brigade. He paid tribute to the community and the commitment of the Sigmundsherberg fire brigade and was pleased that such a large number of young people come together.
insights into the fire brigade youth work
The fire brigade youth has steadily developed in recent years. For example, the 49th state meeting of the fire brigade youth took place in Winklarn from July 6th to 9th, 2023. Almost 6,000 camp participants took part here: inside. The participants demanded high temperatures, but the YBBS offered a welcome cooling. Fire brigade groups from different locations, including Breitenwaida, Göllersdorf and Retz, were represented.
early enthusiasm for the fire brigade
As part of the efforts of a new generation of fire brigade members, an early enthusiasm is promoted in Lower Austria, as well as in other federal states. Among other things, the Lower Austria children's fire brigade was launched, which enables children aged eight to ten years to join the fire brigade. The aim is to play the little ones in a playful way to the topics of the fire brigade and to promote social skills.
These initiatives are part of a comprehensive approach that is also pursued in other federal states such as Burgenland and Upper Austria in order to underline the importance of the fire brigade youth and to motivate the next generations for the important work as part of the volunteer fire brigades.
