Fire brigade celebration atmosphere: duels at the FireCup 2025 in Sillian!
On May 1, 2025, the pairings for this year's FireCup were drawn at the picturesque Heinfels Castle. This competition, which will begin on June 13, 2025 in Sillian in East Tyrol, attracts fire departments from the entire Tyrolean region. The FireCup, which took place for the first time in 2015, is very popular in the fire service community and is held in knockout mode.
A total of 16 teams, each with nine members, compete against each other. The defending champion is the Sillian 1 team, while the FF Huben im Ötztal is the current Tyrolean record holder. Most of the teams come from the Imst and Lienz districts. The draw for the duel pairings was moderated by fire department spokesman Anton Wegscheider, and Julia Walder, as the lucky fairy, drew the lucky lots. The event was musically accompanied by the brass section of the Sillian band.

The victory trophy that the winners of the competition will receive was designed by the East Tyrolean artist Ilona Rainer-Pranter. Photographer Toni Ausserlechner was on site and created a slideshow of the event to visually capture the significance of the FireCup.
Historical context
The FireCup is more than just a competition. It is part of a long tradition of fire departments in Tyrol, which have not only been in action for many years, but also play an important role in the social and cultural life of the communities. The history of the Tyrolean fire brigades is researched and documented by the fire brigade history department in the state fire brigade association. This is characterized by supporting local fire departments in questions about fire service history and securing equipment and vehicles that represent the technical development of the fire service.
As part of these efforts, the collection of documented documents and the commemorative publications that document the development of each fire department have been pushed forward since 2013. In this context, the State Fire Brigade Association works closely with the Austrian Federal Fire Brigade Association and the CTIF to make historical data and information accessible.
The FireCup not only combines sporting competitions, but also raises awareness of the history and development of the fire brigade culture in Tyrol, which is sustainably maintained and passed on. The FireCup 2025 promises to be another exciting experience for everyone involved and the spectators.
