Ice accident on the Weißensee: 78-year-old barely escapes the water!

Weißensee, Österreich - On February 14, 2025, a 78-year-old man was employed at Weißensee to free the ice rinks from snow. He used a specially designed ice vehicle with a snow shield. Suddenly the ice gave in and the vehicle started to sink. The handlebar was able to save himself in time before the vehicle sank around two to three meters deep into the water of the lake. Fortunately, the 78-year-old remained unharmed, as both dolomitenstadt as well as Meinbezirk reported.

The snow shalle, which was mounted on the front of the ice vehicle, prevented the vehicle from sinking completely. This turned out to be a crucial stroke of luck, because even if the vehicle suffered considerable damage, the salvage could be resolved without injuries. The salvage campaign is planned for February 15. The emergency services are already on site to ensure that the ice cream and the vehicle are checked properly before further measures are taken.
