Resignation of Georg Pangl - personal reasons behind the resignation as BFV President

In the middle of sensational resignations within the Austrian Football Association, both Klaus Mitterdorfer and Georg Pangl have resigned their offices. While Mitterdorfer has resigned as President of the Austrian Football Association, Pangl as head of the Burgenland State Association (BFV) has taken his hat off and thus also leaves the ÖFB Presidium.

Georg Pangl was only elected in March 2024 as President of the BFV with a narrow majority and was therefore a comparatively new face in the official level. His resignation was justified with "personal reasons", as was explained in a broadcast of the BFV on Thursday evening. The 58-year-old Pangl should have held the office for at least five years, which has now been obsolete due to his resignation.

The decision of Georg Pangl to withdraw, will certainly leave traces in the Burgenland football community. The exact background of his resignation was announced in an emotional broadcast, in which Pangl emphasized that he and his family are doing well. He also stated that despite great commitment and passion for the association, he made mistakes that ultimately led to his resignation. It was an honor for him to serve the BFV and its clubs, even if this was shorter than planned.

The football landscape in Burgenland is facing a fresh start after both Mitterdorfer and Pangl have resigned, and the upcoming developments will certainly be the focus of regional sports fans.
