Headscarf mafia: Thomas Stipsits inspires at the preview in Oberwart

On Thursday evening, the film “Headscarf Mafia – The Stinatz Crime” celebrated its exclusive preview at the Dieselkino Oberwart. The hall was filled to capacity, which shows the great demand for this new work. Lead actor and author Thomas Stipsits was there to delight the audience with his presence.

This event was not only a cultural highlight, but also attracted prominent guests. Among the spectators were Governor Hans Peter Doskozil and Oberwart Mayor Georg Rosner. ORF program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz and TV film director Katharina Schenk also didn't miss the event.

A film with local charm

The presentation was complemented by a short interview with Stipsits, in which he shared humorous anecdotes and interesting background information about the making of the film. “Headscarf Mafia” is more than just a crime film; he skilfully captures the peculiarities and charm of Burgenland, especially Stinatzer. “The film is not only entertaining, but also strengthens the Burgenland brand,” said Doskozil, emphasizing the importance of such productions for the region.

The positive response to the film was quickly noticeable. Viviane Jandrisits, an enthusiastic viewer, said: “I found the film really funny and will definitely watch it again.” Due to the great interest, an additional screening date was planned for Friday evening, which will also take place in all cinema halls of the Dieselkino.

The official film premiere will be broadcast on ORF1 on October 28th at 8:15 p.m., which only increases the anticipation for the film. In an interview with MeinBezirk Oberwart, Stipsits gave an insight into his thoughts and the creative process behind the film adaptation of his book. “It’s an extraordinary feeling that a book can be turned into a film so quickly,” says the author.

This film adaptation is the result of the positive response to Stipsits' debut novel. The author explained that the first edition of 8,000 copies was sold in just one week and interest in his work was sustained. “Soon the first production companies and also the ORF got in touch,” he reported.

The special connection to home

Stipsits emphasized the importance of regionally anchoring his work: “I wanted to choose a place to which I have a connection.” Many of the scenes depicted in the film are based on real events from Stinatz, with the exception of the murder cases that are covered in the film. This combination of fiction and regional reference makes the story even more fascinating.

After the success of “Headscarf Mafia”, initial preparations are already underway for another film, “The Uhudler Conspiracy”, which is to be shot again in southern Burgenland. “With this new project I expect great success again, because no one can portray the soul of Stinatz as well as Thomas Stipsits,” added Doskozil.

The anticipation for future projects and the successful premiere are positive signs for the local film industry and reflect the great interest in bringing local stories to light. You can find more information about this event in a detailed report on www.meinkreis.at.
