15 years is not a dirty slingshot: together for a clean Burgenland

In Burgenland, the initiative "Don't be a dirty slingshot - our streets are not a landfill" has been active for 15 years to raise awareness of the right waste disposal. This campaign was launched to draw attention to environmental pollution and to persuade people not to simply carelessly throw their waste into nature.

In a time when climatic changes and environmental problems are more pressing than ever, it is essential to focus on your own garbage. During a walk through the idyllic landscapes of Burgenland, some may forget how serious the situation is often. However, scattered garbage is omnipresent, from plastic bags to beverage cans that affect the natural beauty of the region.

campaign to raise awareness

Measures are taken annually to raise awareness. Last year, 660 metal boards were set up in the entire Burgenland, which were provided with the concise slogan "Being no dirty slingshot". These plates are intended to remind the population to dispose of their garbage in the containers intended. Despite a slight decline in garbage volume, there is a challenge to free the public places from rubbish. Those responsible plan to extend the campaign to other places such as paths, parking spaces and water.

The Omemners of the Burgenland waste association, Michael Lampel and Georg Rosner, emphasize that the problem is not only reserved for urban areas. Many rural areas are also affected, which is often associated with modern eating habits. Fast food and take-away meal mean that many people want to get rid of their packaging quickly-and this garbage often ends up in nature.

With the aim of sensitization, the initiative also won new partners. The Waldquelle company also supports the campaign. For Waldquelle, cleanliness and responsible use of the environment is of great importance, as is illustrated in an official message. You see the support of waste prevention projects as part of your company responsibility and are actively committed to a functioning circular economy. Dagmar Habeler, the company's spokeswoman, emphasizes: "Protection of our environment is particularly important to us."

festivities and actions

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary, a radio competition was launched: "Let yourself be planted-we plant a tree". From October 7th to 27th, the listeners have the opportunity to win a young tree every day. This should not only motivate people to actively participate in the campaign, but also promote awareness of the importance of the environment and nature care.

Werner Herics, the state director of ORF, indicates the responsibility of the media in order to strengthen the awareness of environmental and sustainability issues. "We will not tire of drawing attention to the illegal disposal of garbage and calling up the population to act responsibly," he explains. He sees sensitization as a key to sustainable changes.

Overall, the initiative "Being not a dirty slingshot" is a call to mindfulness and responsibility in dealing with our trash, and it encourages the Burgenland to contribute to the cleanliness of nature.
