Historical highlight: exhibition for 500 years Batthyány in Güssing!

The fascinating exhibition "The Pelican on Güssing-500 Years of the Batthyány family" in the Güssing Castle, which was launched last year for the 500th anniversary of the Lanification of Franz Batthyány with the Castle and Hands of Güssing, experiences a continuation due to their overwhelming success. As burgenland.at , the impressive show will be seen from now on until the end of October 2025. Governor Hans Peter Doskozil announced that the exhibition, which addressed the development of the castle over five centuries, attracted over 18,000 visitors last summer. The audience can look forward to a trilingual presentation in German, Hungarian and English, which tells the history of the castle in a unique way.

insights into history

The exhibition extends over nine rooms of the castle, in which the diverse functions as a parent castle and the center of rule of the Batthyánydar are positioned. Special treasures of family history, such as archive materials and important exhibits, are put together here. The focus is particularly on the life stories of Balthasar III. and his son Franz II, who shaped the magnificent era of the castle. Another exciting aspect is the foundation of the Franciscan monastery with the family crypt in Güssing, which is staged together with the history of Adam I, the last Batthyány.

In addition, the renovation of the bursta restaurant is imminent for which an investment of two million euros was made available. According to burgguessing.at , the tendering process already began with the aim of starting the renovation work in March to reopen the restaurant and terrace in summer. These measures should not only increase gastronomic attractiveness, but also position the castle as a popular wedding location.
