Focus on photographers: Creative image editing in the focus
In an exciting creative challenge, Christian Möhrle invited seven professional photographers to edit the same RAW photo. The idea behind this experiment was to observe how different individual styles can influence the photos. Möhrle used the result to create an informative video full of useful editing tips.
The basis for the challenge formed five bracketed raw photos that offered the photographer enough creative scope. I also took part in this challenge and found that it is quite challenging to edit photos that you did not take yourself. Without personal memories of the scene, I was often dependent on assumptions. Usually the atmosphere that I perceive when taking pictures helps me to process the mood for the final picture. Sometimes I already have this vision in my head while I'm still on site.
insights into different styles
Since the other photographers were also in relation to the picture, there were a variety of different results: different white comparisons, colors, contrasts and image sections. This experiment impressively shows how strongly the personal style influences image editing. This is less about pure technology, but about the direction in which direction every photographer wants to go with his processing.
The inspiring differences between the processing were fascinating. In retrospect, I could have felt a warmer color as better for this photo. Such findings usually need some time, which is why it is advisable to let the photos rest for a while and then return for the last subtleties after a few days. I often make several adjustments to my photos after the main processing.
In the middle of the video, Möhrle shows his own machining steps. He explains every step, from the basic adjustments of the RAW data to color correction and the last fine work in Photoshop. This part contains valuable information that is extremely instructive for anyone who wants to improve image processing. Interested parties should definitely watch Möhrle's video to learn from his expertise.
