Tradition is alive: Sautanz inspires over 250 guests in Donnerskirchen

The Sautanz festival at the Reichardt winery in Donnerskirchen took place for the eleventh time this year and attracts numerous visitors every time. Created to maintain an old Romanian custom, a piece of tradition is kept alive here. The event is very popular and contributes to the preservation of regional customs and culinary traditions.

While it used to be the farms that shaped the image of the village, these also included the house slaughter that took place in winter - the Sautanzfest is the highlight of this tradition. In the 1970s the custom was largely forgotten, but it is still upheld at the Reichardt winery. This is particularly notable as the Sautanz is a unique event for the region.

A festival with tradition and enjoyment

In wonderful weather, over 250 guests flocked to the grounds to celebrate with good food and music. The participants were able to enjoy numerous culinary delicacies, including liver, sausages, Blunzen, Grammeln and classic sandwiches. "The atmosphere was unique. The pig used to be the most important staple food. Everything is used in the Sautanz," explains Lisa Reichardt, summing up the meaning of the festival.

The “Original Sautanzmusi” provided the appropriate musical setting. This group from Donnerskirchen played rustic Burgenland music, which further strengthened the feeling of community among the guests. Interestingly, the idea for the Sautanz came from the musicians themselves, whose performances make a significant contribution to revitalizing and preserving the tradition. The Reichardt winery offers both the location and the wines, which gives the festival a very special touch.

Special wines and celebrations

An integral part of the program was the wine christening, at which the new young wine, a yellow Muscat, was presented. It was very well received and the guests enjoyed raising their glasses and toasting the celebration. In addition to the Sautanz, there are also other events at the winery that fit the tradition of the region. Particularly noteworthy is the Wine Csárda, where visitors can not only taste the wines but also enjoy regional tapas.

By cultivating such customs, the Reichardt winery has not only kept an important part of Burgenland's culture alive, but has also created a platform where community and conviviality are the focus. Conclusion: The Sautanzfest is not only a culinary experience, but also a return to old values and traditions, which are celebrated here with a modern touch.
