Burgenland: Ascent to the top of the purchase - a look at the development

In Burgenland, the economic situation of the population has improved significantly in recent years. According to a recent study by the OGM survey institute, which was created on behalf of the Burgenland business agency, it turns out that people in this region are now financially better than a few decades ago. It is particularly noteworthy that the purchasing power in Burgenland is now about five percent above the average value in Austria. The purchasing power is only higher in Lower Austria.

The study illuminates that purchasing power in a federal state results from various factors such as the actual income, the price level and consumer behavior. In this context, it is also pointed out that life in Burgenland is relatively cheap compared to other federal states. As a result, the income in Burgenland has increased significantly in recent decades.

peculiarities of the Burgenland

Another interesting aspect of the study is the outstanding position of Burgenland women compared to their male colleagues in other federal states. In many cases, they earn more than this. According to Johannes Klotz, the study author of OGM, the high income is also due to the significant funding of the European Union after Austria's joining in 1995. These funding not only contributed to the creation of numerous jobs on site, but also significantly supported the country's economic upswing.

An additional plus for Burgenland is the influx of many people from Vienna, which can be observed, especially in North Burgenland. The district of Eisenstadt-Environment stands out because it has the highest purchasing power throughout Burgenland. The previously existing north-south gradient in purchasing power is still available, but it has decreased significantly in recent years.

The challenges that are associated with this development should not be underestimated, but progress is undeniable. The rate of employment and economic growth in Burgenland offers promising perspectives for the future of this region.
