Eight speeders in Vorarlberg: Führerschein away! Flash controls have an effect!

Alberschwende, Österreich - In Vorarlberg, there were several traffic controls last week, which resulted in a strict procedure against speeding speeds. On July 10th and 12th, 2025, a total of eight driver's licenses were withdrawn. The controls took place in particular in Alberschwende and Damüls, where motorcyclists in particular were targeted by the police.

A group of four of Belgian motorcyclists was checked on July 10th. This exceeded the permissible maximum speed of 50 km/h, while two of them were measured at speeds of 123 km/h and 124 km/h. The motorcycles were temporarily confiscated and the driver's license was withdrawn to all drivers.

strict measures against racers

In addition, three Austrian motorcyclists were checked in Damüls, who were located in urban areas at 106 km/h and out of town at almost 120 km/h. The driver's license was also withdrawn. Another Austrian driver was noticed by a speed crossing of 136 km/h in a 70 km/h range, whereupon the driver's license was also taken.

On the night of July 11, a 27-year-old Swiss driver was stopped, who drove at speeds of 130 km/h and 121 km/h in a 60 km/h area. His driver's license was also withdrawn. In addition, on July 12, a Hungarian citizen at 139 km/h was stopped in an 80 km/h area who was traveling with his pregnant wife and a toddler. He was not only withdrawn from the driver's license, but also prohibited the onward journey.

changes in the law and their effects

The rising controls fall into a context in which the 34th amendment to the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) comes into force from March 1, 2024. This stipulates that vehicles can be confiscated and auctioned out outside of more than 80 km/h in the local area and 90 km/h if the drivers have crushed or are repeatedly conspicuous. This could particularly be done razors that don't worry about the consequences.

The ÖAMTC has expressed concerns about the new regulations and doubts their effectiveness. Many experts see legal uncertainties and call for a revision of the laws, in particular with regard to the proportionality of the measures.

fines and punishments

speed overruns not only have legal consequences in Austria, but can also result in high fines and points in Flensburg. The regulations are tight and include fines that vary depending on the speed of speed. For example, an exceeding of more than 70 km/h can lead to a fine of 800 euros and a license withdrawal of up to three months. The penalties at increased speeds are also massive, with fines from 700 euros for more than 70 km/h.

The multitude of measures to combat razors and the memory of the legal changes illustrate the continuous striving to increase traffic safety and to exclude dangerous drivers from road traffic. The police will continue to be increasingly against speed violations in the future.
