Mathematics meets art: chaos, algorithms and creative visions in Zülpich!

On January 11th, 2025, the Kunstforum Zülpich will open the exciting exhibition “Chaos, Art and Algorithms – of space-times, time periods and intermediate worlds”, which will be on view until January 25th, 2025. This exhibition features mathematician and artist Siegfried Genreith, who uses mathematical equations to fuse art and nature.

The exhibition impressively shows that mathematics is not just an abstract subject, but can also be used creatively. Visiting the exhibition is free, and the Kunstforum Zülpich is visible through its shop window at all times. Genreith will also be on site on Sundays and Wednesdays between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to interact with visitors.

The connection between mathematics and art

The close relationship between mathematics and art is also highlighted in an article storysh.de treated in detail. Historical artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci already recognized the importance of symmetries and perspective, which required geometric considerations and precise constructions. These concepts have been a central theme in mathematics since ancient times.

Modern technologies offer new possibilities in this context. Topics such as complex symmetries, symmetry breaks and self-similarities are becoming increasingly important. Graphics convey a sense of infinity and dynamic evolution, while the combination of algorithms, photography and computing power brings the beauty of mathematics into artistic expression.
