Wojnar's recalls hummus due to salmonella risk - act now!

The Viennese spread and deli company Wojnar’s initiated a comprehensive recall campaign for its hummus products on April 15, 2025. The reason for this is evidence of salmonella in the raw material tahini, which is processed in several varieties. Various hummus variants that were sold in various Austrian retail chains are affected, including branches of Kröswang, Wedl, Kastner, Transgourmet, Eurogast, nöm Gast and Julius Kiennast. The recall affects not only Wojnar’s products, but also includes additional items offered in supermarkets such as Spar and Billa. Customers can receive a refund even without providing proof of purchase.

The recall went into effect on Monday and will expand to include additional products on Tuesday, April 16, 2025. This measure was necessary because salmonella poses serious health risks, often accompanied by symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting and low-grade fever. If you have severe symptoms, you should definitely consult a doctor.
