Christmas in shadow of homelessness: Caritas helps those affected!
Christmas time is a special challenge for many people, especially for the residents of the Caritas House Noah in Vienna. After a devastating underground car park on December 1, which made the house uninhabitable, 113 formerly homeless men and women had to move into various emergency shelters. The damage to water and power lines has led to the house that is expected to be closed for half a year. "The shock was great. Fortunately, nobody was injured," explained Caritas director Klaus Schwertner about the current situation of those affected, who had to leave their belongings behind, such as the Kurier reported.
To give people who have lost everything to give a feeling of community and security, Caritas prepares a festive Christmas. Christmas trees are to be set up in the replacement quarters, games are organized and special Christmas dinner prepared. The aim is to help the residents forget the difficult circumstances over the holidays. "We had to leave everything behind," says Caritas, which is urgently dependent on donations. In addition to financial support, donations in kind, such as warm clothing, hygiene items and durable foods, are also required. At many places in the city there are submission points for this, such as the Kap reported.
