Mainberg Castle: Stories and secrets of a historical pearl!

Mainberg Castle, a historic building with an eventful past, is the focus of attention. Loud Mainpost The support association founded in 2018 aims to preserve the castle and restore its cultural significance for the region. A remarkable exhibition is currently being shown in the castle under the title “Found, Bought, Gifted”, which can be seen at Burggasse 17 in Schweinfurt until January 5th. This exhibition, curated by historians Thomas Horling and Daniela Harbeck-Barthel, brings to light objects, furniture and art objects that are deeply rooted in the history of the castle.

A remarkable exhibition with history

The exhibition presents, among other things, the artistically turned balusters of Elinor von Opel, which gained importance during the divorce war between her and Willy Sachs. Also on display is a graphic by Heinz A. Böhm showing the castle in the Christo style, as well as numerous other important exhibits that provide insights into life and culture of bygone times. These initiatives underline the castle's enduring fascination and heritage, which is honored through historical art objects.

But the situation of the castle is not without problems. As the Munich evening newspaper reports, the owner is faced with high costs in order to be able to carry out the urgently needed maintenance work. Leading authorities have closed the castle due to breaches of fire safety regulations, posing significant financial hurdles. The owner lacks the necessary funds to be able to carry out the necessary renovations, which amount to around 300,000 euros. More and more cracks appear due to settlement movements in the ground, while the building is affected by water damage and garages have to be turned on. The State Office for Monument Preservation will now examine what measures are necessary to preserve the historical heritage.
