Jannik Sinner: The superstar of the Erste Bank Open 2025 in Vienna!
Jannik Sinner will be the main attraction at the Erste Bank Open 2025 in Vienna, which will take place from October 20th to 26th. Tournament director Herwig Straka announced the Italian tennis star's commitment at a press conference. This announcement comes shortly after Sinner's appearance in the final of the 2025 US Open, where he lost in four sets to Carlos Alcaraz.
2025 marks Sinner's sixth participation in the Erste Bank Open, a tournament that played a central role in his career. Sinner described Vienna as one of his favorite tournaments and praised the city's hospitality. He first competed in 2019, back then with a wildcard and as number 119 in the world. He has impressed so far in Vienna, reaching the semi-finals in 2021 and winning the title in 2023 after a dramatic final against Daniil Medvedev.
Strong field of participants
At least five other top ten players have already confirmed their participation in this year's tournament. These include:
| player | country | World rankings |
|---|---|---|
| Alexander Zverev | Germany | 3 |
| Alex de Minaur | Australia | 8 |
| Lorenzo Musetti | Italy | 9 |
| Karen Khachanov | Russia | 10 |
| Jack Draper | United Kingdom | 7 |
Players such as Andrei Rublew (No. 14), Tommy Paul (No. 15), Daniil Medvedev (No. 18) and Frances Tiafoe (No. 29) will also be in the field. Straka emphasizes the challenge of organizing a strong field, especially after last year's winner Jack Draper had to end his season early due to an arm injury.
Extensions and changes
Sinner will play his first match on Wednesday, October 22nd at the Stadthalle. During the tournament, remaining tickets are already limited and some days are already sold out. In order to meet the increasing demand, the Marx Halle will be used as a new second match location, which has three tennis courts. A wheelchair tennis event will also be held there, with participants including Nico Langmann, Alfie Hewett, Martin De La Puente and Gordon Reid taking part.
Sinner has put in impressive performances this season and is currently ranked No. 2 in the world with a record of 37-5. He has already won two titles this year: the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He also reached finals in Rome, the French Open, Cincinnati and the US Open. His return to Vienna is another highlight in an already successful year for the young Italian.
With the Erste Bank Open approaching in Vienna, the tennis world will inevitably be turning its eyes to the city as Sinner and a number of outstanding players will battle for the title.
