Tyrol's population growth: Focus on immigration and births!
A total of 6,678 children were born in Tyrol in 2024, which means a decrease of 1.3 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, there were 6,538 deaths, which were reduced by 1.6 percent. This leads to a positive birth balance of 140 more births than deaths, like ORF Tirol reports. Despite the declining numbers of births and deaths, the population remains almost stable, mainly due to immigration, which led to a total population of 777,773 people in May 2024. This corresponds to an increase of 1,803 people compared to the beginning of 2024.
In addition, the marriage and divorce rate in Tyrol has followed a nationwide trend, as 3,971 couples tied the knot in 2024, which corresponds to a decrease of 4.9 percent compared to 2023. There was also a decrease in divorces, a total of 1,035, which means a decrease of 6.7 percent. Demographic developments show that the majority of growth is influenced by immigration, both from abroad and from other federal states Statistics Tyrol emerges.
Demographic trends in Tyrol
The statistics for Tyrol make it clear that the proportion of foreign citizens in the resident population is increasingly playing a role. In January 2023, 771,304 people lived in Tyrol, including 139,723 with foreign citizenship, which makes up 18.1 percent of the total population. Increasing immigration and lower birth rates relative to mortality indicate significant demographic changes that could have long-term impacts on society. However, Tyrol, along with Vienna and Vorarlberg, remains a local example of slight population growth, although the birth balance is particularly stagnant.
