Lidl Austria: Fight food waste with save-me bags!

Lidl Austria is sending a strong message against food waste! From March 4, 2025, the innovative “Save Me Bag” will be offered in all branches. This new offer includes selected pastries from the previous day, sold for just one euro. By purchasing a bag that contains four high-quality pastries such as Semmerl and Kornspitz, customers can not only save money, but also actively contribute to saving food. The savings per bag are between 30 and 70 percent today.at reported.

But that's not all: Lidl Austria also supports social projects with this campaign! Ten cents from every “Save Me Bag” sold goes to the aid organization “Licht ins Dunkel”. This collaboration is all about social responsibility, as Michael Kunz, CEO of Lidl Austria, emphasizes that the fight against food waste also has a positive impact on the environment. Mario Thaler, managing director of “Licht ins Dunkel”, emphasizes how important such initiatives are to help socially disadvantaged people in Austria. “ Lidl has been a reliable partner in supporting social projects for over 15 years,” adds Thaler.

The launch of the “Rette-mich-Sackerl” marks a further step in Lidl Austria’s comprehensive package of measures to reduce food waste. Since 2021, the company has been saving around two million kilograms of fruit and vegetables from the organic waste bin every year through the “Save Me Box”. Through such programs, Lidl wants to show that food rescue has both an ecological responsibility and a social dimension in order to help those affected by poverty in society. This means that every sale of the bag not only becomes a bargain for customers, but also a valuable contribution to those in need.
