Young people in focus: What motivates Generation Z in Carinthia?

The eagerly awaited Ö3 youth study tour begins in Carinthia, which started today in the HLW St. Veit an der Glan. Students like Moritz Koppitsch highlight the exciting opportunity to present their concerns as part of the “Ask the Whole Country” format. “I find it very exciting that we are allowed to take part,” said the young participant, who was actively involved in the discussion topics together with friends. This study examines what concerns Generation Z and what fears and goals they have. Everyone between the ages of 16 and 25 has the opportunity to take part in the study online and share their perspective in order to make their own voice heard, as Ö3 presenter Tina Ritschl emphasizes: “We want to make 16 to 25 year olds heard.” The topic ranges from social expectations to personal challenges, which is of great importance for many young people.

The focus is also on the problem of the classic distribution of roles in society, especially in the household. Marika Radinger, a student, discussed the fact that the idea that women are responsible for housework still often prevails. However, her own experiences show that an equal distribution of tasks, as practiced in their relationship, works. These and similar dilemmas will be discussed in the upcoming program “Ask the whole country” on March 12th at 10:50 p.m. on ORF 1. Another important point that many students raise is the lack of preparation for life after school. This not only applies to financial skills such as filling out a tax return or understanding insurance, but also skills such as stress management and time management. Many young people are faced with the challenge of finding their way in a rapidly changing world, which increases the desire for more practice-oriented content in school lessons.

In addition to the classic school subjects, the younger generations want an education that prepares them for the challenges of everyday life. Topics such as digitalization, resilience and mindfulness are central to many, as they imagine a life in which they are not only consumers, but also active designers of their digital world. Current discussions and events, such as the Ö3 youth study, show that educational institutions are required to align teaching to the needs of students. Despite some progress in some schools, there is still a great need for resources and qualified specialist staff to implement the necessary changes across the board. The topics mentioned are important not only for the students but also for society as a whole in order to prepare the next generation for the realities of life.
