Together for a non-violent life: Orange the World in Stockerau!

In an impressive symbol against violence against women, Stockerau's town hall shines in bright orange. On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th, initiated by the Soroptimists and in collaboration with the municipality, flags were raised and a joint walk through the city was carried out. This action aims to send a strong signal for the rights to a non-violent life, as Mayor Andrea Völkl emphasized. Such a commitment is necessary because violence against women remains an alarming reality that takes place in many areas of life, be it at home, at school or in the digital space, and in many cases is not visible, meinbezirk.at reported.

At the same time, November 25th marked the start of the international UN campaign “Orange the World”, which lasts until December 10th. The campaign draws attention to the ongoing problem of gender-based violence, which is one of the most common human rights violations. The Federal Ministry of Justice is participating in this initiative by lighting buildings in orange and introducing various measures to prevent violence and protect women and girls from violence, as bmj.gv.at reported. The importance of violence clinics, which provide free and independent medical examinations for victims of violence, is also highlighted.

Violence prevention measures

The newly founded violence clinics in Austria are an important step towards supporting those affected. This outpatient clinic offers special examinations that ensure the objective preservation of evidence and can be decisive in future criminal proceedings. In addition, cooperation with victim protection organizations is promoted in order to enable victims to leave violent relationships.

The first violence clinics have already opened in Graz, and another is getting ready in Vienna. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive approach that not only aims at individual well-being, but also affects society as a whole. The commitment and initiatives of various institutions underline how important it is to address this pressing social problem and ultimately create a safer environment for women and girls.
