The March for Life: Young people demand a yes to children!
In Austria, the debate about abortion is causing a stir. The organization “Youth for Life” has once again made an urgent plea for a “culture of life”. In a press release on March 11, 2025, chairwoman Gabriela Huber was critical of current abortion practices and described them as an act of violence against the weakest in society. She called on politicians to take action through education and support for pregnant women. According to Huber, liberal abortion policies are more harmful to women because they promote irresponsibility and do not provide much-needed help.
Call for support for expectant mothers
At the “March for Life” on International Women's Day, which brought together around 250 participants in Innsbruck, the importance of supporting women in conflict during pregnancy and finding ways to make a life possible for the child was emphasized. Natalie Ehrenberger, group leader of the Tyrolean “Youth for Life,” makes it clear: “We cannot talk about women’s rights until we have put the right to life first.” She underlined that abortion is not an act of self-determination, but a decision that affects the life of a child; a child is not an illness, according to Ehrenberger.
The controversial debate about abortion is considered one of the most important social issues of our time. The opinion landscape is divided: on the one hand there are the supporters of a liberal abortion policy who advocate a woman's right to self-determination, while the opponents, as in an article by cathwalk.de stated that unrestricted access to abortions is seen as a threat to human dignity. The question of when human life begins and the value and dignity of life itself are central points that lead our society into a profound debate.
